McGladrey & Pullen LLP Leader to Serve on SEC Advisory Committee

The Securities and Exchange Commission has appointed Joseph (Leroy) Dennis, executive partner, McGladrey & Pullen LLP to its Advisory Committee on Smaller Public Companies. The committee will examine the impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and other federal securities laws on smaller companies.

Dennis brings more than 25 years of public accounting experience to the committee. In his present role with McGladrey & Pullen, Dennis oversees the firm's audit practice encompassing policies and procedures and quality control.

"While no one will disagree that better internal controls and governance are important to protect the interests of stakeholders and confidence of the U.S. capital markets, we must ensure that the costs of regulation for small companies is commensurate with the benefits," says Dennis.

In announcing the appointment, the SEC said that Dennis "will represent middle market accounting firms, small public and private companies and publicly traded financial institutions." Dennis and the 20 other advisory committee members will hold their first meeting in early April.

RSM McGladrey Inc. and McGladrey & Pullen LLP have an alternative practice structure. Though separate and independent legal entities, the two firms work together to serve clients' business needs.
